Press Release
February 26, 2024
An unexpected and remarkable event unfolded on Saturday, February 24, 2024, during our
quarterly ABLBH board meeting. As a devoted supporting member of A Better Life Brianna's
Hope (ABLBH), I have witnessed the profound impact of our participant-driven, faith-based, and
compassion-filled movement in supporting individuals battling substance use disorder.
For over six years, I have dedicated myself to our cause, serving as a Team Hope member of
our inaugural chapter here in Hancock County. From setting up chairs to serving as a grill
master, from providing lessons to offering devotions, each moment has strengthened my
commitment to our mission.
Last year, I was honored to be voted onto the Executive Board of Directors. In this role, I have
strived to enhance our organization's efficiency and effectiveness, working to standardize and
streamline our operations.
I am incredibly humbled to share that on February 24, 2024, I was unanimously voted in as
Chairman of the Board of Directors. This appointment fills me with both gratitude and
determination as I embark on this new chapter of service. I am wholeheartedly committed to
building upon the foundation laid by our founder and board predecessors, striving to make
ABLBH an even more impactful source of support for those in need.
Together, let us continue to extend our hands in compassion, our hearts in faith, and our minds
in dedication to our shared mission. With your unwavering support, I am confident that we will
create a better future for all who seek refuge and recovery within our community.
With profound gratitude and anticipation,
David A Carver

The Fragile Tapestry of Humanity
Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:14, Proverbs 22:6, James 4:14, Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Introduction
Good morning, church. Today, I want to talk about the delicate yet powerful nature of our humanity and how God designed us to grow, learn, and flourish within a fragile framework of relationships, choices, and habits. The title of this sermon is The Fragile Tapestry of Humanity.
Let us consider this profound thought: "Our humanity rests upon a series of learned behaviors, woven together into patterns that are infinitely fragile and never directly inherited." It reminds us that the habits and values that define us are not automatic but must be cultivated intentionally. More importantly, it points us to our need for God to guide us, teach us, and restore us when we fall short.
- We Are Wonderfully Made, Yet Fragile (Psalm 139:14)
Scripture: "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
- Each of us is created with infinite care and intentionality. God wove every part of us together, body, soul, and spirit.
- However, our humanity, like a tapestry, is fragile. One poor choice or broken relationship can begin to unravel the patterns of our lives.
- Consider how addiction, sin, or unchecked habits can cause the threads of our lives to fray. Yet even in our brokenness, God sees us as valuable and worthy of restoration.
Illustration: Imagine a delicate tapestry hanging in a museum. It is beautiful, but over time, it can collect dust, fray, or even tear if not cared for. That tapestry is like our lives. It requires constant attention and care, but more importantly, it needs the hands of the Master Weaver—God Himself—to restore it when it becomes damaged.
- Patterns Are Learned, Not Inherited (Proverbs 22:6)
Scripture: "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it."
- We are not born knowing how to live righteous lives; our patterns of behavior are taught, shaped, and reinforced by those around us.
- Positive patterns—like prayer, love, generosity, and faith—must be intentionally instilled. Similarly, destructive patterns—like fear, selfishness, or anger—can also be passed down if we are not careful.
- Addiction often highlights the fragility of learned behaviors. Breaking free requires unlearning old, destructive patterns and embracing new, godly ones.
Application: What are the patterns in your life that you are teaching or passing on to others? Are you reinforcing habits that lead to life and godliness?
- Life Is Fragile and Fleeting (James 4:14)
Scripture: "What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes."
- James reminds us of the fragility and brevity of life. We do not have unlimited time to repair the broken patterns or start fresh.
- The fleeting nature of life calls us to act with urgency. We cannot afford to delay in surrendering our brokenness to God or committing to live in obedience to Him.
- Despite our fragility, God’s grace is sufficient. In Him, we find the strength to begin again and the wisdom to walk in His ways.
Illustration: Think of a spider’s web after a storm. It may be fragile, but the spider rebuilds it, thread by thread. God does the same with our lives when we trust Him.
- God Is the Master Weaver (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
Scripture: "These words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children."
- Moses reminds the Israelites to intentionally teach and pass down God’s Word. The patterns of faith and righteousness do not continue automatically; they must be taught and reinforced.
- When life unravels—whether due to sin, addiction, or suffering—God steps in to restore the tapestry. He is the Master Weaver who uses even our broken threads to create something beautiful.
- God’s design is not only about repairing what is broken but about creating something new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Application: Are you allowing God to weave His truth and love into your life? Are you actively passing these patterns on to others?
- Living Intentionally: Strengthening the Tapestry
Scripture: "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5:15-16).
- Living intentionally means examining the patterns of our lives and choosing to align them with God’s Word.
- It means recognizing that every decision, habit, and relationship either strengthens or weakens the tapestry of our lives.
- Most importantly, living intentionally means trusting God with the areas where we feel broken or fragile.
Challenge: This week, take inventory of the patterns in your life. What is God calling you to strengthen? What is He asking you to let go of?
Conclusion
Brothers and sisters, our lives are like a tapestry, woven together with learned behaviors and choices. While our humanity is fragile, we serve a God who is both the Creator and Restorer of all things. He takes the frayed edges of our lives and weaves them into something beautiful when we surrender to Him.
Let us commit today to live intentionally, to trust God with our brokenness, and to pass on patterns of faith, hope, and love to those around us.
Closing Prayer
"Lord, thank You for creating us so wonderfully. We acknowledge the fragility of our humanity and the ways our patterns have fallen short. We surrender our brokenness to You, trusting You to restore and renew us. Help us to live intentionally, to strengthen godly patterns in our lives, and to pass on Your truth to others. Thank You for being the Master Weaver who makes all things beautiful. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
Invitation
If you feel that your life is unraveling, or if you want to invite God to restore the patterns in your life, I invite you to come forward for prayer. God is ready to meet you where you are and begin His work in you today.
Takeaway Scripture: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17).
